You can find articles all over the internet about what to do for your wedding day but here are a few of Don’ts! Some of these are so simple but there are a lot of brides don’t think about these things until it is to late!
1. Don’t change your skincare, detergent, birth control, ect within 6 weeks of your wedding -
Why not change these things? What do they have to do with my wedding? Well, changing any of these things can wreck havoc on your skin. Something as simple as changing moisturizers or switching birth control can create skin freak outs. If you must change, give your skin time to react to the changes before the wedding day.
2. Don’t get your face waxed, hair cut/colored or get a facial/peel within 2 days of your wedding -
This is one of those things that you have probably done many times but this will be the only time that you will be having this service right before your big day. When it comes to a hair cuts and colors make sure to not do anything drastic right before the wedding or switch stylists, nothing can make it harder to style a bride than if she’s unhappy with the cut or color.
Waxing is something that should definitely be taken care of at least 2 days prior to the wedding, not only because of mishaps but due to redness. Even if swelling and redness has reduced to the naked eye, camera’s pick it up not matter what we do with makeup.
We have had brides mention a plan to get a peel/ facial days before the wedding and we have to try and convince them against it! Ladies, these services PEEL off your skin – you need time to heal and if you don’t you will still be peeling for the wedding.
3. Don’t get a keratin straightener the month of the wedding or flat iron your hair the day of the wedding -
You want big beautiful bouncy curls that last all night? Too bad if you just got a keratin treatment or flat ironed your hair the morning of the wedding. The reason this doesn’t work is because you are forcing your hair straight and then in the next moment trying to force it to curl and hold the curl, for most hair types, this just won’t work.
If you have fallen in love with keratin treatments then the closest to the wedding you should get these done should be 2 months pre wedding. As artists that specialize in wedding we will be able to get rid of the “frizzies”.
4. Don’t wash your hair the day of the wedding -
We know that you are worried about having dirty hair or oiliness but we have you covered, one thing that we use on almost all of our brides is dry shampoo, not only for de-oiling but also to add volume. If you must wash your hair before the wedding, do it the night before but we prefer at least ”day old” hair. When your hair is slightly dirty, it will style better and have better volume.
5. Wear your strapless bra (or no bra) while getting ready to avoid “strap indents”-
One of the worst things we see in pictures while brides are getting prepped are strap lines and redness left from bra straps. Go ahead and break in the wedding day bra while you are getting ready so that you avoid strap lines.
6. Don’t skimp on water -
Don’t dehydrate! Hydrated skin looks younger and healthier and you will feel better all day if you are sipping on something.
7. Avoid red wine or dark berries due to tinted smiles (and possible stains!)-
Don’t chance tinting your pearly whites with dark red wine! You run the risk of staining your teeth or worse your dress by drinking red wine! Stick to white wines and champagne.
