Bridesmaid Beauty Tips

April 26, 2012 in Bridal, Hair Styling, make up, Tips and Trends

After the many weddings that we have done over the years, we have noticed some of the same questions over and over, not just from our brides but from the bridal party as well. As a bridesmaid you want to look your best for the bride but also feel comfortable in what you look like as well.

As a bridesmaid you have the chance to try something more trendy than if this is your own wedding. Want to try some of the braided ideas that you see on pinterst? Here are some inspiration ideas for bridesmaid hair that we love!

Here are suggestions that we have for bridal party members that will never go out of style-

Makeup Tips -

  • Coordinate your makeup, don’t match it to each other
  • Take a color cues from the bridesmaid dress colors and flowers
  • If you plan on doing your own makeup, make sure you do a trial on yourself
  • Mineral makeup is NOT appropriate for weddings, it is not photo friendly

Hair Tips -

  • Bring photos to your beauty team, this helps communicate what you like
  • If you know that your hair “won’t hold a curl” then wear your hair in a soft updo
  • Are you at a destination wedding with a completely different climate? Trust your professionals!

Pre-wedding Day Tips -

  • Don’t get a sunburn! Make sure that you are using SPF coming up to the wedding
  • If you must get some sun, do it artificially! Get a spray tan!
  • Get your waxing done at least 2 days pre-wedding

Wedding Day Beauty Don’ts

March 28, 2012 in Bridal, Tips and Trends, Wedding Wednesday, words

You can find articles all over the internet about what to do for your wedding day but here are a few of Don’ts!  Some of these are so simple but there are a lot of brides don’t think about these things until it is to late!

1. Don’t change your skincare, detergent, birth control, ect within 6 weeks of your wedding -

Why not change these things? What do they have to do with my wedding? Well, changing any of these things can wreck havoc on your skin. Something as simple as changing moisturizers or switching birth control can create skin freak outs. If you must change, give your skin time to react to the changes before the wedding day.

2. Don’t get your face waxed, hair cut/colored or get a facial/peel within 2 days of your wedding -

This is one of those things that you have probably done many times but this will be the only time that you will be having this service right before your big day. When it comes to a hair cuts and colors make sure to not do anything drastic right before the wedding or switch stylists, nothing can make it harder to style a bride than if she’s unhappy with the cut or color.

Waxing is something that should definitely be taken care of at least 2 days prior to the wedding, not only because of mishaps but due to redness. Even if swelling and redness has reduced to the naked eye, camera’s pick it up not matter what we do with makeup.

We have had brides mention a plan to get a peel/ facial days before the wedding and we have to try and convince them against it! Ladies, these services PEEL off your skin – you need time to heal and if you don’t you will still be peeling for the wedding.

3. Don’t get a keratin straightener the month of the wedding or flat iron your hair the day of the wedding -

You want big beautiful bouncy curls that last all night? Too bad if you just got a keratin treatment or flat ironed your hair the morning of the wedding. The reason this doesn’t work is because you are forcing your hair straight and then in the next moment trying to force it to curl and hold the curl, for most hair types, this just won’t work.

If you have fallen in love with keratin treatments then the closest to the wedding you should get these done should be 2 months pre wedding. As artists that specialize in wedding we will be able to get rid of the “frizzies”.

4. Don’t wash your hair the day of the wedding -

We know that you are worried about having dirty hair or oiliness but we have you covered, one thing that we use on almost all of our brides is dry shampoo, not only for de-oiling but also to add volume. If you must wash your hair before the wedding, do it the night before but we prefer at least ”day old” hair. When your hair is slightly dirty, it will style better and have better volume.

5. Wear your strapless bra (or no bra) while getting ready to avoid “strap indents”-

One of the worst things we see in pictures while brides are getting prepped are strap lines and redness left from bra straps. Go ahead and break in the wedding day bra while you are getting ready so that you avoid strap lines.

6. Don’t skimp on water -

Don’t dehydrate! Hydrated skin looks younger and healthier and you will feel better all day if you are sipping on something.

7. Avoid red wine or dark berries due to tinted smiles (and possible stains!)-

Don’t chance tinting your pearly whites with dark red wine! You run the risk of staining your teeth or worse your dress by drinking red wine! Stick to white wines and champagne.

Makeup Monday – Products I LOVE!

March 19, 2012 in Airbrush Make up, make up, Makeup Monday, personal, Tips and Trends, words

There are quite a few products in my kit that I absolutely love and after this weekend I remember why. When I do other peoples make up for a wedding or event I always have this feeling of “Wow, look how confident she looks and beautiful she feels”. That is a great feeling to be apart of and one of the things that I enjoy most about what I do. Sometimes though I forget how that feeling feels personally! This weekend was a reminder for sure on a personal level.

Let’s just say that I was having a less than stellar hair and skin day, which is a bummer. I had a HUGE black tie event to go to with my guy and was super excited about getting all glamorous myself. I help so many people look the best they can on the biggest night of their life that when I get to be all made up, it’s a fun treat!

Here is a list some of my favorite products that are in my professional kit that I personally have as well -

1. Temptu Airbrush Makeup – I love airbrush makeup, it’s something that I have been doing for over 5 years and I still feel it is the best choice for a long night of dancing and glamour. When I get made up for a special event, this is my go to foundation of choice. I prefer a light feeling with medium coverage and the ability to build in certain areas to cover trouble spots and airbrush provides this like no other.

2. “Stay Don’t Stray” eye primer – This Benefit product does double duty as an eye primer and under eye concealer and I just adore it! When I say staying power, I mean it! This holds on my shadow all night and makes the colors so much more vibrant and the high pigment content hides under eye darkness wonderfully without creasing under eyes. This has definitely become one of my “must haves” in my make up bag and recently I got a cute little “mini” sized primer and it’s perfect for my purse!

3. Sephora Lash Primer – This is one of those products that I never really used until recently. I’m an avid shopper of Sephora’s sale area and I found this little gem about a month ago. I was never blessed with huge full lashes but when I apply this primer before my favorite mascara, it really does add bulk to my lashes. I also find that it helps with “mascara fall out” which really bothers my sensitive eyes, when I use the primer I can wear my mascara much long with little to no irritation.

4. MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Powder
– Love love this one and the sad thing is that I had forgotten how much so until -recently rediscovering it. This powder has sort of a marbled look to it and I use it as a finishing powder, after setting with loose powder, to places that I feel just need a slight “glow”, mostly on the cheeks and decollete for a radiant glow. I use it more liberally on photoshoots and the skin just looks flawless when this product is used peoperly.

There are 2 different shades that I use in my kit but personally I use “Soft & Gentle”.

5. Hourglass Veil Primer – Hourglass has been a brand of foundation that I have used for many a photo shoot and love the full coverage of it. I recently went to Sephora and chatted with an artist there who suggested this primer and I was interested just because of the fact that I loved the foundation so much.

I love the consistency of this primer, not to “slippery” and not to much “stick” which is my biggest complaint for primers. It reminds me a lot of Makeup Forever’s primer but a little bit thicker and less runny, which I like. When applying this product, rather than apply it before my foundation, I like to mix the 2 together and I feel that it stays on better and it’s one less step.

If you notice, these are all “prep” products when it comes to makeup; not color, blush, shadows or lipstick and for good reason. I am a firm believer that the prep of the skin is monumentally important to the look of the end result and that you need to have a prepped canvas to have the most flawless makeup application possible.

Wedding Wednesday – Katie Scott Married!

February 22, 2012 in Airbrush Make up, Bridal, Hair Styling, Wedding Bliss, Wedding Wednesday

A big Southern plantation. A warm summer afternoon.  A beautiful wedding!

This past August we had a really fun wedding at a beautiful location but man was it hot! One of the best things about Louisiana is the weather, most of the time. One of the reasons Katie hired us was because she was worried about the South Louisiana heat and we were there to take care of it for her. One of the reasons we airbrush makeup is just for this reason, no matter how hot you get, our silicone based foundations stay put through whatever the day has in store for you!

That day we stayed with Katie and her bridal party through her outdoor ceremony and pictures to make sure that everything looked great and after the ceremony we changed her hair. Katie wanted to wear both a veil and headband so after the ceremony we switched her over from the veil to her beautiful crystal headband.

Location – Nottoway Plantation
Photographer – Eye Wander Photo
Prep Time – 5 Hours for the Bride and 8 Bridesmaids

Makeup Monday – Hautelook Haul Face Atelier/ Hart of Dixie

February 13, 2012 in Fun Stuff, hair, make up, Makeup Monday

So as I mentioned before – I went on a HUGE spending spree on HauteLook.com not to long ago! But I am really really excited about this brand – FACEatelier. I know many a makeup artist that swear by this brand and use it in their professional kit. I wanted to try it for my self to get a good idea on how it works and what the texture and coverage is.

So far I have tried it twice on myself and I love love love it. It took about a dime sized amount for each side of my face to get a really good coverage and to cover my redness completely. It feels really light and stays really well plus I love a good silicone foundation!

Now onto the subject of Hart of Dixie – I love love love this show! Not only because I can relate to the whole city girl lost out in the country but because I just adore the over the top “Southern” styling of the female characters. In the beginning you just loathe Lemon Breeland (Jaime King) because of the way she treats Zoe Hart (Rachel Bilson) but as the show goes on you start to love her as well. Aside from the story line, the styling for Lemon is GREAT! Now I just came back from being  bleached out blonde but she makes me want to go back! Soooooooooooooo lady like and demure, it makes me want to wear a cardigan!

Here is a perfect example of the hair, makeup and styling that I love so much and I can’t wait to recreate a look like this. Soft pinks and browns, rosy cheeks and lips and all around lady likeness with the makeup and the hair ever so perfectly placed! I’m Southern as all get out but I’m no where this fancy…. maybe I’ll work on that!

UPDATE – 02/22 – I had a chance to create my Lemon Breeland look for a commercial for Loom Cinematography and I LOVED it! Once I get the video back I’ll post so that you can see it!

Body Wraps featured on Real Housewives of Atlanta at Verde!

February 2, 2012 in Body Wraps, Bridal, Tips and Trends

Recently we have had a lot of our brides mention that they saw one of the housewives of  Atlanta getting a body wrap and so I had to watch! We also have been getting new clients call about the wrap who have seen the episode and found us online. In fact they are the same wraps that we provide at Verde! I was really excited to see someone doing a wrap on television properly and the client getting great results. She in fact lost over 10″ all over and that is something that our clients experience regularly!

These wraps do really work and can take off a minimum of 6″ and up to 20″ all over the body – usually the adverage being around 10″ for all over inch loss. We get a lot of people asking about the wrap and wanting to know if it really works and I tell them all the same thing – If it didn’t, I wouldn’t offer it. I actually got my own wrap done before starting to do them and I lost 11″ and noticed that it took more effort to “poof” my stomach out! I was really really impressed!

In fact we had a bride who was so excited about her inch loss and cellulite reduction that she sent me a picture from her bachelorette weekend and was like “Check out my thighs! There is no cellulite!” and it’s true – check her out!

If you’d like to know more information about what goes into the body wrap our Body Wrap & Tan FAQ will tell you exactly what it is and what to expect!
